Credits and Limits

Understand when credits are used, when they reset, and what happens when you run out.

Credits control billable comparison actions on credit-limited plans.

What credits are used for

Credits are consumed when you intentionally run a billable action:

  1. Clicking Apply in the dashboard filter bar.
  2. Applying a saved custom preset or Favorites preset.
  3. Clicking Export CSV.
  4. Clicking Explain with AI.
  5. Sending each AI follow-up message in chat.

What does not consume credits

These actions do not consume a credit:

  1. Changing filters before clicking Apply.
  2. Adjusting chart controls (axes, aggregation, breakdown, series toggles).
  3. Adjusting table sorting/pagination/display options.
  4. Initial background loads that are not explicit Apply actions.
  5. Changing chart/table controls without triggering Apply/Export/AI.

Credit-safe behavior (refunds and duplicate protection)

The system includes safeguards so you are not charged unfairly:

  1. If an Apply action fails after decrement, the credit is refunded.
  2. If Apply returns no data, the credit is refunded.
  3. Duplicate Apply requests in a short dedupe window (about 2 seconds) are deduplicated to avoid double charge.
If you click Apply and the request errors or returns empty results, the system attempts to restore the deducted credit automatically.

Monthly reset behavior

Credits reset monthly on your account cycle day (based on your signup day-of-month).

How reset works:

  1. Your plan defines your monthly credit allocation.
  2. On reset day, available is restored and used is reset to 0.
  3. The next reset date is moved forward to the next cycle.

If your tier changes, credits are re-aligned to your current tier allocation.

Low-credit and exhausted-credit experience

When credits are low:

  1. You receive a low-credit warning (at roughly 10% remaining or lower).
  2. The warning includes your remaining credits and reset date.

When credits are exhausted:

  1. Apply actions are blocked.
  2. Dashboard data responses return empty until reset or upgrade.
  3. The upgrade modal shows your reset date and links to pricing.

Troubleshooting quick checks

  1. If Apply is disabled, verify required filters first, then check credit state.
  2. If you expected a refund, wait briefly and re-check credit values after response settles.
  3. If credits seem stale, run a fresh Apply action to sync current values in the UI.
  4. If exhausted, either upgrade or wait until your listed reset date.
