Plans and Upgrades

Understand plan tiers, upgrade paths, and how Stripe checkout and billing portal flows work.

Use the Billing section in Profile Settings and the central Upgrade page to manage upgrades and subscription changes.

Where plan actions happen

Go to Profile Settings. The Billing card shows:

  1. Current plan
  2. Subscription status
  3. Next renewal date (when available)
  4. Upgrade, downgrade, and billing-management actions

Upgrade paths in the app

Available actions depend on your current tier and can include multiple target plans:

  1. Free: Upgrade to Standard, Advanced, or Enterprise.
  2. Standard: Upgrade to Advanced or Enterprise.
  3. Advanced: Upgrade to Enterprise.
  4. Enterprise: Manage billing in portal (no higher in-app tier).
  5. Paid tiers can also use Downgrade to Free (via billing portal cancel-at-period-end flow).

If an active subscription already exists, upgrade action routes you to billing portal management instead of creating a second checkout flow.

Stripe checkout behavior

When starting checkout:

  1. The app creates or reuses your Stripe customer.
  2. It starts a Stripe subscription checkout for the selected paid tier.
  3. On success, you are redirected to /remittance-data?billing=success.
  4. On cancel, you are redirected to /remittance-data?billing=cancel.

If checkout is blocked because an active subscription already exists, use Manage Billing.

Billing portal behavior

Use Manage Billing to:

  1. Update payment methods
  2. Manage/cancel subscription
  3. Handle other Stripe billing actions

The app returns to /remittance-data?billing=portal after portal actions.

If plan/status looks out of sync

Try this sequence:

  1. Finish checkout/portal return flow.
  2. Re-open Profile Billing.
  3. Trigger a fresh session sync by reloading the dashboard/profile page.

In most cases, status and tier update after Stripe sync completes.
